What outage intelligence is

Power outage data is scattered across hundreds of utility websites, and every utility reports it a little differently. Outage intelligence is what you get once that mess is collected, cleaned up, and delivered as one feed you can actually use. Outage Pro monitors more than 1,200 utilities across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, which covers a large majority of US electricity customers, and turns their data into a single view that runs from a national total down to a single county or utility. Instead of building and maintaining your own scrapers, your team pulls the same clean data from a REST/JSON API, gets webhook alerts when outages cross a threshold you set, and can drop county GeoJSON straight onto its own maps. Whether you're coordinating a disaster response, protecting stores and facilities, or reporting a breaking story, the job is the same. You need current, trustworthy outage numbers in a format your systems can read, and that is what this data gives you.

Why live, county-level coverage matters

An outage number is only worth something if you can act on it. That means it has to be current, detailed enough to tell you where the problem is, and backed by a source you can point to. Outage Pro updates about every 10 minutes and stamps every value with a last-updated time (UTC), so you always know how fresh the picture is. Coverage is measured against the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) baseline of total US electricity customers, which gives the coverage figure a clear, checkable meaning instead of a marketing number. And because the data goes down to the county and utility, you can start from a national view and move straight to the exact area you care about, then see which utilities are behind a county's outages. That is what makes it dependable for public decisions, operational alerts, benchmarking, and newsroom reporting alike.

How teams get the data

Outage Pro is a paid, developer-friendly API. You integrate it once and pull data whenever you need it, rather than working from a one-off export. It's standard REST/JSON with API-key authentication, so it fits the dashboards, GIS platforms, and internal tools you already run. Webhooks push events the moment outages cross a threshold you set, so your systems get notified instead of polling for changes. Optional county GeoJSON lets you render severity maps without sourcing boundary files yourself, and if you'd rather have a ready-made visual, you can embed the interactive outage map.
